We had so many people stop by at the Portland Maine Wedding Show asking about this centerpiece. It was the jewel in our display this year. They had never seen anything like it before and were full of questions. We promised that we would share our secrets and tell everyone how to make it for their own wedding!
First off, this is a messy centerpiece to move. We highly recommend that you build the centerpieces “on location”. Practice before the actual wedding day, so that the construction runs smoothly. You can spray and coat the fruit beforehand to save time……
You will need the following:
1 bottle spray adhesive
1 bag superfine sugar
Gallon size zip locks bags
Fruit (We used grapes, red pears, lemons and limes)
Clean garbage bags
Latex gloves
Floral Foam
Floral Picks
Clear glass cylinder vase
Clear glass bowl
Red florist’s knife
Lemon Leaves
NOTE: THIS CENTERPIECE IS NOT EDIBLE!!
Before you start-
Fill (1) zip lock bag with sugar
Cover your work surface with newspaper
Have your fruit ready to go- make sure there are no stickers on them. If you are using grapes, remove any shriveled or broken ones.
Spread garbage bags.
1. Put on your latex gloves. Picking up fruit one at a time, cover completely with spray adhesive. Immediately, put fruit in zip lock bag and shake to fully cover with sugar.
2. Put fruit on garbage bags to dry.
3. Once fruit is dry you can begin to make your arrangements.
4. Cut the floral foam to fill your glass bowl.
5. Start with the grapes; put them in place using the floral picks. Go around the bowl, making sure to drape them over the side to create visual interest.
6. Fill in the gaps with the other pieces of fruit. Make sure that you vary the height.
7. We filled the cylinder vase with sugared limes and pears.
8. Tuck in the lemon leaves wherever you see gaps.
