The Bankery
By Audrey Schoenthaler, Belle Fete Events & Catering
Today I had the pleasure to visit The Bankery, a small bakery in Skowhegan, ME located in a restored 1864 bank. Co-owners Michael Hunt and Matthew Dubois transformed the space into a quaint and cheery space with loads of character. The old vaults have been turned into walk-in refrigerators and freezers. Old safety deposit boxes help make up the counters, and the old bank clock outside is topped with a stylish “The Bankery” sign.
Since their opening in August of 2008, The Bankery has quickly become the talk of the town, known best for their amazing wedding cakes. Dubois, a trained pastry chef, makes rich, moist, delicious cakes while Hunt, an artist turned cake designer, gives each cake the attention of a master sculptor. Everything is made fresh from scratch daily from recipes the men have spent years perfecting. Prices at The Bankery are more than reasonable. A typical wedding cake runs between $2-$5 per serving with custom designs priced after consultation. To conclude, The Bankery is a great place to get a delicious, masterly crafted wedding cake that is sure to impress.
