Angel of the Berwicks at Hurd Manor

by Jessica Gorton, Belle Fete Events & Catering

This gorgeous Victorian mansion was built in the late 1880’s by Mary Hobbs, who had recently inherited her father’s woolen mill in North Berwick. The space is an excellent example of the Queen Anne style, almost decadent in its architectural details. Hand carved friezes decorate the front porch, four chimneys rise above the house attached to 8 fireplaces, one of which has a fossilized marble mantlepiece, and there is stained glass scattered throughout, shining filtered rainbow light on the beautiful wood floors and furniture.

The whole house has been meticulously restored and cared for by the innkeepers, Sally and Ben Gunn, with 5 guest rooms that sleep up to 12 people, all with private baths. The first floor has several rooms that would be great, alone or in tandem, for intimate dinner parties or a fundraising function.

The grounds are beautifully manicured, with wonderful colors, especially in the fall. There is plenty of space to put a tent outside.

The Angel of the Berwicks would be a fantastic spot for an intimate wedding or business conference.
